What is it? The Music Educators teaching in the 18 Berks County Middle/Junior High Schools sponsor an annual County Festival Concert. Outstanding members of each school’s Band, Orchestra, and Chorus are encouraged to participate in auditions to qualify for the festival.
When is it? The auditions will be held in the evening on Tuesday, February 21 at Governor Mifflin High School (time TBA). If selected, the students will be required to attend a band rehearsal on Friday, March 31 from 9:00am to 2:30pm (Location TBD). On Saturday, April 1 there will be a rehearsal and the concert (Location TBD).
Who can audition? The Junior County Music Festival includes students in grade 7, 8, & 9.
What is the audition like? The instrumental auditions require a prepared solo (from a required list), scales, and sight-reading. The five-minute individual audition is judged by a panel of several music educators. Students who qualify for County will be challenged by performing quality high school level music, in a large ensemble (100+) of talented student musicians, under the direction of a guest conductor (often a college band director).
